Profile: Let's turn back the clock to the 1990s. Techno music is taking the world by storm, and, at the same time, analog vintage synthesizers are witnessing their return from the graveyard. Instrument designer Stefan Schmidt and his company MAM, located in the south of Germany, grasp the sign of the times and introduce the MB-33 – a great-sounding TB-303 clone, becoming one of the most successful synthesizers of this era.

Its successor, a clone of the legendary Moog Taurus bass pedals, remains a prototype only. Instead, Stefan starts thinking about an analog synthesizer without any compromises. From the primordial cell of the projected Taurus-clone, one of the most ambitious synthesizer projects of all time is growing during the upcoming decade.

To turn this dream into reality, Stefan is supported by his co-developer Achim Jerominek as well as the sales expert Stefan Hund and his company EMC that has operated and co-ordinated the project successfully over its entire life span.

In 2013, Schmidt's first prototype was delivered to Hollywood-based composer celebrity Hans Zimmer. The rest is history, so to speak…
